READY TO HELP WITH POST HURRICANE SANDY RECOVERY EFFORTS

One of the worst aspects of post-disaster recovery is getting properties restored. It should be both quick and simple, but often it is becomes more complex than it needs to be because of delays in assessing the damage, agreeing the repair scope and finding the right contractors to undertake the work.

From first-hand experience as both project manager and cost manager/damages expert, Rider Levett Bucknall understands the process of repairing buildings and other structures that have been damaged by natural disasters including, importantly, how to liaise with the numerous government agencies which become involved in reconstruction efforts.  These agencies include FEMA, State Emergency Management offices, National Emergency Management Organizations, and private sector organizations.

Rider Levett Bucknall has close to 20 years experience working with FEMA in the aftermath of and recovery from natural disasters. Our first interaction with FEMA was in late 1992 after Hurricane Iniki struck the Hawaiian island of Kauai. Rider Levett Bucknall acted as project managers for the rebuilding of a number of projects, we provided advice to insurance adjusters about reconstruction costs and schedule on several dozen projects and, finally, we provided expert testimony in disputes involving damage assessment and repair costs.

Since then, Rider Levett Bucknall has been involved in damage assessment and / or reconstruction project management in the aftermath of the 1994 Northridge Earthquake, Hurricane Opal which hit the Gulf of Mexico in 1995, Super Typhoon Paka which affected Guam and the Southeast Pacific in 1997, the Nisqually Earthquake in 2001, Hurricane Isabel in 2003 and the devastating Hurricane Katrina which hit Florida and the Gulf in 2005.  Across numerous projects resulting from disastrous events, Rider Levett Bucknall has interacted with numerous insurance adjusters, contractors and government entities, maintaining positive working relationships with all parties and, importantly, getting the reconstruction work done.
